Ajayi Escapes Hamstring Injury, Set for Coventry
Hull City defender Semi Ajayi has avoided a serious hamstring injury and is expected to feature against Coventry City on Saturday.
Hull City have received a major boost after Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi was cleared of a hamstring injury and is expected to be included in the squad for Saturday’s trip to Coventry City.
Ajayi had raised concerns during Hull’s impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the MKM Stadium after being substituted in the 64th minute with what appeared to be hamstring stiffness.
However, subsequent checks showed that the defender had not suffered a significant injury and is now expected to be available for the club’s next Premier League fixture.
Fellow Hull goalscorer Noah Mendy, who was also withdrawn during the match after complaining of an adductor problem, has similarly come through checks without major concerns.
Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic had expressed concern about the players immediately after the victory, admitting that the defensive changes were not part of his original plans.
“Ajayi was complaining about his hamstring, and Nobel about his adductor,” Jakirovic said.
The latest assessment will come as welcome news to Hull, particularly after Ajayi played a key role in their memorable victory over Manchester United.
The 32-year-old opened the scoring in the 17th minute, reacting quickest to a rebound after United goalkeeper Senne Lammens had denied Oli McBurnie from a corner.
Ajayi’s goal gave Hull confidence and helped set the tone for a remarkable performance against the visitors.
Mendy then doubled Hull’s advantage before half-time, leaving Manchester United facing a difficult afternoon on their return to the Premier League after nine years away.
Ajayi’s availability will be particularly important to Jakirovic as Hull prepare for another demanding fixture.
The Nigeria international has brought considerable experience to Hull’s defence and his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch was evident against United.
With no serious hamstring problem detected, Ajayi is now expected to continue his impressive start to the campaign when Hull travel to Coventry City on Saturday.
Hull will hope the defender can maintain his fitness as they seek to build on their statement victory and establish themselves strongly following their return to the Premier League.
