Aisha Yesufu Asks Nigerians to Fund Peter Obi’s 2027 Campaign
Activist Aisha Yesufu has urged Nigerians to contribute financially to Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential campaign, promising transparency in the management of donations.
Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has called on Nigerians to contribute financially towards former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential campaign, saying the responsibility of funding the election should not rest on him alone.
Yesufu made the appeal in a video shared on X on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, urging supporters to take ownership of the campaign by making financial contributions, regardless of the amount.
She said Nigerians who wanted political change should be willing to support the process financially rather than leave the burden entirely to Obi.
“My fellow citizens, Peter Obi cannot do this alone. There is no way we can say that we want to rescue a nation, we want to get back our nation, we want the people to own this nation, and then we say that we are going to leave everything to Mr Peter Obi to fund,” she said.
Recalling the 2023 presidential election, Yesufu said Obi had initially been reluctant to accept public fundraising, but she had argued that citizens should be involved in financing the campaign.
She maintained that the previous fundraising exercise was accounted for, despite criticisms that followed the initiative.
According to her, the existing arrangement in which Obi largely provided funds for campaign activities was no longer sustainable, adding that supporters needed to contribute what they could.
Yesufu also clarified that the fundraising initiative was separate from the political party’s finances. She said the party would publish its own account details for individuals interested in donating directly to it.
The activist pledged transparency in managing the contributions, promising to account for every donation received.
She said the initiative was intended to support campaign activities organised by citizens, while the political party would handle its separate fundraising arrangements.
Her appeal comes as political activities and mobilisation efforts begin to take shape ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
