Aina Reacts to Awoniyi’s Coventry City Move
Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina says Taiwo Awoniyi’s departure to Coventry City has left him feeling like the club’s only Nigerian player.
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has reacted to Taiwo Awoniyi’s move from Nottingham Forest to newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City.
Aina said Awoniyi’s departure means he is now the only Nigerian player remaining at Nottingham Forest, describing the situation in a light-hearted response.
Awoniyi completed a permanent move to Coventry City in August after leaving Forest, joining the newly promoted Premier League side for a reported fee of about £17 million.
The Nigerian striker has since featured for Coventry, including in their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend.
Aina and Awoniyi had been among the Nigerian players at Forest, alongside goalkeeper Maduka Okoye before his departure.
Aina, who joined Forest in 2023, remains an important part of the squad and started the club’s recent Premier League fixture against Tottenham.
The defender’s reaction highlights the close relationship between the two Super Eagles internationals, who have also shared the pitch for Nigeria.
