Adeleke Unveils 10-Man Committee for Election Violence Victims, Invites Petitions

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has inaugurated a 10-member committee to verify victims of election violence and oversee the N500 million relief fund, while inviting affected persons to submit petitions and supporting evidence.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has inaugurated a 10-member Committee on Election Violence Victims to verify claims by persons affected by violence during the recent governorship election.

The committee will also oversee the disbursement of the N500 million Election Violence Victims Relief Endowment Fund established by the state government.

The committee is chaired by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, while Sola Sonibare, Executive Secretary of the Osun Investment Promotion Agency, serves as secretary.

Other members include Eniola Omotoso, Emmanuel Olowu, Balkiss Akinleye, a nominee of the Nigeria Police Force, Moshood Suleiman of the Ministry of Information, Moses Faremi of the Ministry of Justice, a nominee of the Department of State Services, and Yemi Lawal.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the committee is expected to conduct a transparent and credible verification process to establish genuine claims and ensure that relief reaches deserving victims.

The committee has been mandated to receive and verify petitions, claims and supporting evidence from victims, determine the eligibility of claimants and recommend appropriate relief for those whose claims are confirmed.

The state government said the initiative was aimed at supporting citizens who suffered deaths, injuries, displacement, property losses or other forms of hardship as a result of election-related violence.

It urged affected persons with genuine claims to submit accurate information and relevant evidence to assist the verification process.

The government also assured that the N500 million fund would be administered transparently and fairly, and used strictly for the benefit of verified victims.

The committee's establishment follows concerns over violence recorded during the Osun governorship election, with the state government earlier announcing plans for a relief fund for affected victims and their families.
