Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced plans to convene a State Security Council meeting following reports of an alleged terror threat targeting worship centres and other locations in the state.

The governor also urged residents to promptly report suspicious movements and individuals to security agencies, particularly in communities close to the state’s borders.

The development followed a meeting between the Department of State Services and leaders of the Osun Muslim Community and the Christian Association of Nigeria.

At the meeting, religious leaders were reportedly informed of intelligence indicating plans by terrorists to mobilise to states across the South-West and cause unrest as part of an alleged plot to discourage voter participation in the 2027 elections.

Adeleke, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, urged residents to remain vigilant and share relevant information with security agencies.

He said residents should be particularly alert to unusual movements and an influx of unfamiliar persons into their communities.

The governor commended the DSS for what he described as proactive measures to address the reported threats.

He directed other security agencies to review the situation and develop an action plan aimed at strengthening the protection of lives and property across the state.

Adeleke said the planned security council meeting would assess the situation and determine the effectiveness of the state’s response plans.

He also urged residents to exercise caution when hosting unfamiliar people in their communities.

The governor called on traditional rulers to discuss the development during their respective traditional council meetings and support efforts to prevent threats to public peace.

Adeleke said his administration remained committed to post-election peace-building and would continue to strengthen security measures to prevent terrorists and bandits from disrupting public order in Osun.
