Adeleke: I’ll Not Disappoint You, Osun Residents, After Re-Election

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has assured residents that he will not disappoint them after securing re-election for a second term, promising to build on his achievements and address areas where his administration fell short.

Adeleke made the commitment on Sunday during a press conference following his declaration as winner of the August 15 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The governor, who contested under the Accord Party, dedicated his victory to the people of Osun State, thanking them for their resilience and support throughout the electoral process.

He said residents had faced intense political pressure in the months leading up to the election but remained committed to democracy.

“In the last few months, Osun people have been under very intense pressure. Today, the issues are settled by the grace of God and people,” Adeleke said.

He added that the victory belonged to the people of the state and praised their determination to participate in the democratic process.

Adeleke promised to use his second term to strengthen areas where his administration had performed well while correcting identified shortcomings.

“As you have trusted me again for the second term in office, I will not disappoint you. To serve you better, I will reinforce my strong points and correct my errors under my renewed five-point agenda,” he said.

The governor also thanked Nigerians and other supporters of democracy, as well as the media, for their role during the election.

He said his administration would continue pursuing development and good governance while extending an olive branch to his political opponents.

“Osun State is on the march again. We shall expand development and widen the net of good governance. In this race, there is no victor, no vanquished. I extend my olive branch to my co-contestants. I am the governor of all Osun State people,” Adeleke said.

He outlined his broader vision as transforming Osun from a predominantly civil service-based economy into an industrial and investment destination.

Adeleke was declared winner at about 7:24am on Sunday by the State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

The governor polled 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress finished third with 17,180 votes.

The victory gives Adeleke a second term after he was first elected governor in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party before defecting to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 election.
