The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, has challenged the All Progressives Congress candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, to sue him over claims concerning Adeola’s ancestry.

Adebutu made the challenge on Wednesday at a PDP campaign rally in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state.

Adeola had earlier threatened legal action against PDP chieftain Folake Marcus-Bello and suspended APC member Abayomi Hunye over claims that he was an indigene of Ekiti State.

The APC candidate reportedly gave the two individuals 24 hours to provide evidence backing their claims or face legal action, describing the allegations as false and libellous.

Adebutu, however, said he was prepared to face Adeola in court over the matter and urged him to proceed with the threatened legal action.

The dispute is part of an ongoing controversy over Adeola’s ancestral ties to Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Earlier in the year, the Ogun State APC rejected similar claims questioning Adeola’s indigeneship, arguing that he has maternal and paternal roots in Abeokuta and Yewaland and currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The party described the allegations as unfounded and accused Adebutu’s camp of using the issue for political purposes.

Adeola is the APC’s candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election, while Adebutu is the PDP candidate. The dispute over Adeola’s ancestry has therefore become one of the issues featuring in the emerging political contest in the state.
