The African Democratic Congress, ADC, says it does not need a coalition of opposition parties to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this during an appearance on Arise TV, expressing confidence that the party had enough support among Nigerians to win the presidential election.

Abdullahi said although discussions were ongoing among opposition parties on possible areas of cooperation, the ADC was not dependent on a coalition to achieve victory.

He said the coalition discussions were initially intended to make the opposition’s task easier, but the ADC had developed sufficient political strength to contest the election independently.

The ADC spokesperson, however, said opposition parties were still discussing possible cooperation in areas such as election monitoring and vote protection.

He expressed confidence in the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, saying the ADC had enough time to mobilise Nigerians ahead of the election.

Meanwhile, the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement has resolved to remain an independent organisation and reject any merger with an external political body.

The movement, established to mobilise support for Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, said any externally imposed consolidation could disrupt its existing programmes, blur its identity and undermine its grassroots structure.

Rising from its National Leadership Summit in Abuja, the movement affirmed John Ughulu as its founder and Director-General, while rejecting any proposal for his replacement.

It also resolved to remain independent while maintaining cooperation with allied groups pursuing shared political objectives.

The movement further invited Jacky Wayas to return as Director for Strategic Implementation and Planning, while Prince Suleiman Abubakar was appointed Deputy Director-General, North, following the resignation of Amb. Muhammad Auwal Musa.

The summit was attended by national leaders, zonal and state coordinators, as well as local government and ward-level mobilisers from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
