ADC Faction Inaugurates North-West Campaign Council Ahead of 2027 Elections

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by its factional National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, has inaugurated its North-West Campaign Council as part of efforts to strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration followed a meeting of the party’s North-West Zonal Caucus with governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly candidates, alongside other stakeholders, in Sokoto State on Friday.

The Director of Media and Publicity and spokesperson for the faction’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Christopher Okechukwu, announced in a statement on Saturday that Alhaji Nuradeen Lawal Chindo had been appointed chairman of the council, while Dr Bello Shehu would serve as secretary.

He said the meeting, held at Giginya Hotel in Sokoto, was convened to harmonise the party’s positions and develop a coordinated political strategy across the seven states in the North-West.

The newly inaugurated council is expected to provide leadership and strategic direction for the faction’s campaign activities throughout the zone.

The inauguration was presided over by the Deputy Director-General (North) of the faction’s Presidential Campaign Council, Hon. Bala Sani Kumo, while its Director of Legal and Litigation, Chief Cletus Okoye, SAN, administered the oath of office to the appointed members.

In his remarks, Kumo urged the council to establish an inclusive campaign structure that would accommodate different interest groups, particularly youths, women and persons with disabilities.

He directed members to ensure that these groups participated actively in the faction’s political engagements and mobilisation activities across the region.

The faction said it remained committed to an issue-based campaign focused on good governance, peace and sustainable development.

The development comes amid an ongoing leadership dispute within the ADC, with rival groups laying claim to the party’s national leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
