Adamawa LG Chairman Dies Three Months After Swearing-In

The Chairman of Fufore Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Dr Yahya Saidu, has died, barely three months after being sworn into office.

Saidu reportedly died in the early hours of Friday, October 9, 2026. His death was confirmed on Saturday by Aliyu Boya Wakili, the member representing Fufore/Song Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Wakili expressed grief over the development, describing the chairman’s death as an irreparable loss to the people of Fufore and Adamawa State.

He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for the deceased, acceptance of his good deeds and the grant of Aljannatul Firdaus. He also asked God to give the bereaved family, friends, associates and residents of the local government the strength to bear the loss.

Saidu was sworn in on July 15, 2026, alongside other newly elected local government chairmen in Adamawa State.

His death comes about 18 months after his predecessor, Alhaji Shuaibu Babas, also died while serving as Fufore local government chairman on April 23, 2025.

The deaths of two successive chairmen of the same council within less than two years have drawn attention across the state, with political associates and community members expressing shock and offering condolences.

The Adamawa State Police Command also mourned Saidu, describing his death as a painful loss to his family, associates and the people of Fufore. The command’s condolence message did not disclose the circumstances surrounding his death.

Saidu was regarded by supporters as a philanthropist and grassroots mobiliser. His tenure had only recently begun, with his administration expected to pursue development programmes and address local needs.

As of Saturday, the family had yet to announce burial arrangements. Details about the cause of death were also not immediately available.

His death has left the Fufore council administration and residents mourning a chairman whose time in office lasted less than three months.
