Accident Injures Benue APC Delegates En Route to Lafia Rally

Several members of the All Progressives Congress APC from Benue State have sustained serious injuries following a road accident involving a vehicle conveying them to the party’s North-Central rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The accident occurred on Saturday within Lafia, a few kilometres from the venue of the rally organised in support of President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dan-Morgan Ihomun, Publicity Secretary of the Austin Agada-led faction of the APC in Benue State, confirmed the incident, stating that two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

He said no lives were lost in the accident and that those injured had been evacuated to hospitals in Lafia for medical attention.

The exact number of injured delegates and the extent of their injuries had yet to be officially established as of the time of reporting.

The affected supporters were travelling to join party members and political leaders from across the North-Central region at the rally, which attracted governors, elected officials and other APC stakeholders.

The incident comes months after a similar accident involving party delegates from Benue State travelling to Lafia for an APC event.

On March 25, 2026, three delegates from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State died, while about 10 others sustained injuries when a bus conveying them from Makurdi to Lafia crashed on its way to the party’s North-Central zonal congress.

The latest accident has again drawn attention to the safety of party supporters travelling long distances to attend political gatherings.

Further details about the circumstances surrounding Saturday’s collision were not immediately available.
