Abia APC Governorship Candidate Rules Out Alliance with Other Parties
Abia State APC governorship candidate, Eric Opah, has dismissed rumours of a political alliance with other candidates ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that he remains in the race to win the governorship seat.
The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Abia State, Eric Opah, has denied entering into any political alliance with other candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Opah made the clarification on Saturday while addressing journalists in Umuahia, where he dismissed speculation about a possible agreement with other political parties or governorship contenders.
He insisted that he was contesting independently under the APC platform and expressed confidence that his party had the capacity to win the governorship election.
The candidate argued that any politician seeking an alliance should instead consider working with him, citing his qualifications and clearly defined development agenda.
Outlining his priorities, Opah promised a more transparent and people-oriented administration, with particular attention to taxation, employment, industrialisation, healthcare and the welfare of civil servants.
He said his government would review the state's tax system to ease the burden on residents and business owners, while ensuring that taxation remained necessary for government revenue without becoming oppressive.
Opah also pledged to address the mass dismissal of civil servants, ensure effective utilisation of local government funds and improve access to advanced healthcare services across the state.
On job creation and economic development, he promised to prioritise industrialisation, regular promotions for civil servants and greater freedom for market associations to elect their leaders.
He further said his administration would encourage competition in the transport sector to reduce costs for residents and avoid inaugurating projects without adequate preparation for their execution.
Addressing political support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election, Opah said the President deserved backing from political parties across the country, citing what he described as his contributions to the South-East.
He expressed confidence that the APC would win the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and state assembly elections in Abia.
However, he said his administration would accommodate qualified members of other political parties after the elections, adding that political differences should not prevent cooperation in the interest of the state.
Opah maintained that his campaign was focused on presenting an alternative style of governance built around transparency, accountability and improved public services.
