30-Year-Old’ Buba Withdraws From Kaduna Reps Race Amid Age Controversy
Mahmud Sadis Buba, popularly known as Al-ajabin Zazzau, has withdrawn from the race to represent Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
In a withdrawal letter addressed to the Kaduna State chairman of the party and shared on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, Buba said his decision followed consultations with stakeholders and reconciliation efforts initiated by party leaders.
According to him, the move was necessary to promote unity within the APC ahead of the elections.
“Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am withdrawing from the race for Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, House of Representatives, effective immediately,” the letter partly read.
Buba expressed appreciation to the leadership of the party in Kaduna State and Governor Uba Sani for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.
“The experience has been enriching, and I am grateful for the immense support from my constituents and supporters throughout this journey,” he stated.
He added that rallying behind a single candidate had become important for the APC’s chances in the constituency and for the continued progress of Kaduna State.
“My withdrawal is not a sign of weakness, but a sacrifice for the greater good of the party. I remain committed to ensuring the victory of the party’s consensus candidate and the APC at large,” he said.
Buba also appealed to his supporters to remain calm, united and loyal to the party while supporting whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate.
His withdrawal comes amid controversy surrounding his age during the buildup to the party primaries.
Prior to stepping down from the race, critics had circulated what they claimed was the data page of his international passport online, alleging that he was 16 years old despite several reports describing him as 30 years old.
The controversy generated widespread debate on social media and within political circles in Kaduna State ahead of the APC primaries.
