2027: ‘You Won’t Get Second Term in Life’ — Umahi Warns Tinubu’s Opponents
Works Minister Dave Umahi warns opponents of President Tinubu’s re-election, expressing confidence in the APC’s prospects in the 2027 polls.
Minister of Works David Umahi has warned those opposed to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid that they may not secure a second term in their own lives, as political activities intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
Umahi reportedly made the remark on Sunday, October 18, during a political sensitisation campaign in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, organised for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the next election.
The former Ebonyi State governor was quoted as saying that Tinubu would secure a second term, while also expressing support for the re-election of Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru.
“Anyone that does not wish Tinubu and Nwifuru second tenures, may he not have second tenure in his life,” Umahi was quoted as saying.
The minister, who is involved in the APC’s 2027 presidential campaign mobilisation, also expressed confidence that the ruling party would perform strongly in Ebonyi State.
He described the state as an APC stronghold and called on party supporters to intensify grassroots engagement ahead of the elections.
Umahi said the party planned to adopt a more direct campaign approach, including reaching out to residents in their communities to explain its message and mobilise support.
He also expressed confidence in the financial and organisational capacity of party supporters to support the APC’s campaign activities.
The comments come as political parties and aspirants begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential and governorship elections. Tinubu is seeking another four-year term, while political parties are expected to intensify consultations, campaign activities and voter mobilisation in the months ahead.
Umahi has repeatedly defended Tinubu’s administration, citing infrastructure development and federal appointments as reasons for his support. In earlier remarks, he also expressed confidence that the APC could make significant gains in the South-East, a region where opposition parties performed strongly in the 2023 presidential election.
His latest comments add to the increasingly forceful political rhetoric surrounding the coming election. The APC and opposition parties are expected to continue making competing claims about their support base and electoral prospects as preparations progress.
