2027: You Won’t Escape This Time, APM VP Candidate Dares Election Riggers
APM vice-presidential candidate Lawal Daura warns against electoral manipulation, promising resistance and strict compliance with the Electoral Act.
The vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Lawal Daura, has warned those planning to rig the 2027 general election that they will not escape scrutiny.
Daura issued the warning on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the National Campaign Management Committee of the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation.
The former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) said the party would resist attempts to manipulate the electoral process and ensure that the election is conducted in accordance with the law.
According to him, political parties should win votes by convincing Nigerians through their programmes, candidates and policy proposals rather than seeking shortcuts.
“A lot of those that are thinking that there is a way to get votes other than canvassing for them, telling the people how qualitative you are, your programmes, and the rest of it, maybe there are those who may think there is a shortcut,” Daura said.
“Well, this time around, the struggle is for real. We are not going to let them escape with it. We must make sure that everything is done in accordance with the law and the Electoral Act.”
He added that anyone attempting to manipulate the 2027 election should expect resistance.
“And for those who really want to rig, that they can pull a fast one, well, they have a surprise coming,” he said.
Daura also said the APM was seeking to mobilise voters around its plan to “reset” Nigeria, describing the proposed reset as a review of structures and policies that the party believes require change.
He said the party was targeting support from a large proportion of Nigeria’s more than 100 million registered voters.
APM National Chairman Yusuf Dantalle urged members of the campaign organisation to remain focused on delivering the party’s presidential ticket of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Daura in 2027.
Dantalle acknowledged that the campaign would face challenges but said the organisation’s ability to manage disagreements would demonstrate its preparedness for governance.
The inauguration marks another step in the APM’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, as political parties intensify mobilisation and campaign activities ahead of the poll.
