2027: You’ll Be Held Accountable for Wasting Oyo Resources on Presidential Ambition — APC Tackles Makinde

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has warned Governor Seyi Makinde that he will be held accountable for any state resources allegedly spent on his presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 election.

The party made the allegation in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, while reacting to Makinde’s political activities and his reported ambition to contest the presidency.

The Oyo APC described the governor’s presidential ambition as a political drama designed to entertain and distract the people, arguing that he lacks the experience, strategy and personal qualities required to lead Nigeria.

The party said Makinde would be required to account for the state resources allegedly expended in pursuit of his presidential ambition after leaving office.

The APC’s position followed comments by Makinde on Saturday after he was installed as the Aare Asoludero of Ibarapaland by the Eleruwa of Eruwa.

The governor reportedly said he would be available to receive more traditional titles after completing his tenure in May 2027, as he would have no major responsibilities at that point.

The APC also cautioned Makinde against allegedly threatening traditional rulers, religious leaders and other residents for receiving APC candidates and supporters in their palaces and places of worship.

Sadare said the governor could not successfully challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election and accused him of creating political noise and distraction.

The party further claimed that Makinde’s political project would fail even if he secured a place on the ballot, predicting that he would finish far behind other presidential contenders.

The APC said Makinde’s political activities were being monitored and warned that those responsible for allegedly using public resources for the presidential ambition would eventually be made to account for them.

The party maintained that public funds belonging to Oyo State should be used strictly for the development and welfare of its residents rather than political activities.

It also argued that Makinde’s presidential ambition lacked the political structure and national support required to compete effectively in the 2027 election.

The APC urged the governor to concentrate on governing Oyo State and avoid actions that could expose the state to unnecessary financial burdens.

The controversy adds to the growing political contest ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with parties increasingly scrutinising the activities and ambitions of potential candidates.
