2027: We’ll Defeat Tinubu in 12 States — Makinde’s Campaign

The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation has expressed confidence that its candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, will defeat President Bola Tinubu in 12 states during the 2027 presidential election.

The organisation, campaigning for Makinde under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), said Tinubu’s planned campaign visits to the states would not change what it described as growing opposition to his re-election.

In a statement issued by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Nnanna Ihediwa, the campaign attributed public dissatisfaction to economic hardship and what it described as shortcomings in the Federal Government’s policies.

The group listed Oyo, Kaduna, Rivers, Plateau, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano, Adamawa and Lagos as the 12 states where Tinubu is expected to personally participate in campaign rallies.

It argued that the President’s planned visits would not alter voters’ decisions, challenging him to travel by road through the states to assess the condition of federal highways, public infrastructure and the living conditions of residents.

The campaign also criticised the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, arguing that Makinde’s proposed RESET Nigeria programme offered an alternative approach to addressing the country’s challenges.

According to the organisation, the proposed programme would focus on four priority areas: education, the economy, security and socio-political reforms.

It said the economic component would prioritise increased production to reduce poverty, while its security strategy would combine intelligence gathering, social reorientation and military and non-military measures.

The education plan, it added, would seek to expand access to quality education, while institutional reforms would promote inclusive governance and responsible leadership.

The organisation further claimed that its campaign message was gaining traction, particularly among young Nigerians. However, it did not provide independent polling data to substantiate its prediction of victory in the 12 states.

The declaration comes as political parties and campaign groups intensify preparations for the 2027 general election.

The APC has also outlined a proposed nationwide campaign programme for Tinubu, with rallies planned across the federation. The election outcome will ultimately be determined by voters.
