2027: We Know How to Stop Tinubu from Getting Second Term — Momodu
ADC chieftain Dele Momodu says opposition leaders are working behind the scenes to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said the opposition knows how to prevent President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu made the statement during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, October 14, insisting that opposition figures were working behind the scenes to challenge the President’s re-election bid.
The publisher of Ovation magazine declined to disclose the party’s strategy, saying the opposition would not make its plans public ahead of the election.
“I can’t tell you about strategy in public,” he said, recalling Tinubu’s political struggle to secure a second term as governor of Lagos State.
Momodu added that opposition leaders were also working towards preventing Tinubu from returning to the presidency for another four years.
“We are not going to come in public and say this, but we know what to do to make sure that he does not get that second term,” he said.
The ADC chieftain also questioned the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under Tinubu’s administration. He alleged that the President had appointed too many people from the South-West to the electoral body, raising concerns about public confidence in the commission’s neutrality.
Momodu further claimed that doubts about the credibility of the 2027 election extended to some of Tinubu’s supporters. His comments were allegations and did not establish that the commission would conduct a compromised election.
He also dismissed suggestions that Tinubu could refuse to accept defeat, arguing that Nigerians’ determination would be an important factor in the outcome.
Momodu alleged that governors, judges and legislators were increasingly reluctant to challenge the President, claiming that some politicians publicly supporting Tinubu privately hoped he would lose the election.
His remarks came a day after Tinubu inaugurated the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, bringing together ruling-party leaders and politicians associated with other parties.
The development has intensified debate over political defections, opposition unity and the strength of Nigeria’s multiparty system ahead of the 2027 general election.
Momodu did not disclose the specific strategy he said the ADC was preparing.
