2027: PFN Chairman Urges Christians to Take Politics Seriously

The Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Niger State chapter, Pastor PeteRock Sadiq, has urged Christians to take active part in politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sadiq said the Church could no longer afford to remain politically indifferent, stressing that Christians must combine prayers with civic responsibility by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards, verifying their details and voting during elections.

He spoke during the 14th anniversary celebration of House on the Rock, Minna, held as part of the church’s Quantum Leap Conference 2026.

According to Sadiq, Christians should recognise their responsibility as citizens and use their votes to influence the quality of leadership in the country.

“We are not a political party, but we are a moral force and a moral force cannot be politically indifferent,” he said.

The PFN chairman also warned against vote-buying, saying accepting temporary benefits in exchange for votes could mortgage the future of citizens.

He urged voters to evaluate candidates based on integrity, competence, capacity, track record, respect for human life, justice and commitment to development rather than political promises and campaign rhetoric.

“The Church will not choose your candidate for you, but the Church will insist on the standard,” Sadiq stated.

On insecurity, he called for practical, adequately funded and measurable security policies to protect rural communities, farming settlements, schools and worship centres. He also demanded safe corridors to enable farmers to return to their farms.

Sadiq further advocated fairness in political representation, saying Christians should not be excluded from leadership positions, appointments or opportunities.

Representing Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Coordinator on Christian Affairs, Pastor Lawrence Isah, also encouraged Christians to become more organised and participate actively in the APC.

Isah urged Christian politicians to build grassroots networks and engage ward leaders, councillors and other party stakeholders. He also disclosed plans for a coalition of Christian politicians within the APC, with a proposed rally expected to cover all 25 local government areas.

Sadiq announced that the PFN would present a Citizens’ Governance Charter to political actors ahead of 2027, covering security, education, healthcare, employment, youth empowerment, agriculture, infrastructure, accountability and transparency.
