2027: Obi Pledges 10,000MW of Power, Declares Emergency on Corruption
Peter Obi promises 10,000 megawatts of electricity and emergency measures in corruption, security, education and healthcare if elected president in 2027.
The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has pledged to generate, transmit and distribute at least 10,000 megawatts of electricity if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Obi made the promise during a town hall meeting in Enugu, where he outlined his proposed plans to tackle insecurity, corruption, unemployment, hunger and other challenges facing the country.
The former Anambra State governor also promised to declare emergencies in education and the fight against corruption, while ensuring access to functional primary healthcare facilities in every political ward across Nigeria.
Speaking on electricity, Obi described reliable power supply as essential to industrialisation, economic growth and job creation.
“As I promised, we will generate, transmit and distribute at least 10,000 megawatts of electricity, because we want industrial work,” he said.
On corruption, the NDC candidate pledged to strengthen transparency and accountability in government, insisting that public funds must be used for the benefit of citizens.
“People must stop stealing public money. Public money must be used for public good. That is why I am making my commitment. We will be accountable, we will be open,” Obi stated.
He also promised that Nigerians would be informed about the reasons for government borrowing and how borrowed funds were spent.
Addressing insecurity, Obi said his proposed administration would take decisive action against criminal activities and strengthen security agencies to protect lives and property.
“As president of Nigeria, I will unite Nigeria. As president of Nigeria, I will secure Nigeria. We will deal with security,” he declared.
On education, he pledged to ensure that Nigerian children had access to schooling, identifying the number of out-of-school children as a major national concern.
He further promised to establish functional primary healthcare services in every political ward, arguing that access to basic medical care should be available across the country.
The presidential candidate described Nigeria’s challenges as requiring leadership with competence, capacity, compassion, commitment and character. He urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country’s future.
Obi also challenged President Bola Tinubu to engage Nigerians across the country and explain his administration’s performance over the past three years, particularly the utilisation of borrowed funds.
He called on presidential aspirants to interact directly with citizens, understand their challenges and present clear plans for addressing them.
The pledges form part of Obi’s proposed policy direction ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Their implementation, if elected, would depend on funding, institutional capacity and the policies adopted by his administration.
