2027: Obi, Kwankwaso Movement Unveils 59-Member Presidential Campaign Council

The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement has unveiled a 59-member presidential campaign council as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.

The development marks another step in the mobilisation efforts surrounding the political alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who are seeking to coordinate support ahead of the presidential contest.

The movement, popularly known as the OK Movement, brings together supporters associated with the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements, alongside other political groups backing the proposed alliance.

The group has been building structures across Nigeria, with its organisers saying the movement has established coordinators across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The campaign council is expected to coordinate mobilisation, communication, grassroots engagement and other activities connected with the Obi-Kwankwaso political project.

The unveiling follows earlier consultations among stakeholders over the composition and structure of the campaign organisation. In August, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, said leaders including Obi, Kwankwaso and former Bayelsa State governor Seriake Dickson were expected to pronounce the OK Campaign Council.

At the time, Tanko also dismissed reports of disagreements between supporters of the different groups, saying the various movements were working towards a common objective.

The OK Movement was launched earlier in 2026 by supporters of Obi and Kwankwaso as a platform intended to coordinate political activities ahead of the 2027 election.

Its organisers have described the initiative as a nationwide movement focused on political mobilisation and reform, with structures being developed at national, zonal, state and grassroots levels.

The development comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission published its final list of presidential candidates for the January 16, 2027 election.

Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, is listed alongside Kwankwaso as his vice-presidential candidate.

The emergence of the campaign council is therefore expected to provide a formal structure for the alliance’s activities as the election season progresses.

The council will also have to coordinate activities across the different support groups that have emerged around the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.

Earlier discussions within the movement had emphasised the need to connect these groups and prevent separate organisations from operating without coordination.

With the campaign council now unveiled, attention is expected to shift towards its operational structure, grassroots mobilisation and the commencement of broader campaign activities across the country.

The movement’s leaders have maintained that their focus is on building a coordinated political platform around the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
