2027: Nwifuru Won’t Surrender to Political Theatrics, Sponsored Attacks — Ebonyi Govt
Ebonyi Government says Governor Nwifuru remains focused on governance despite opposition criticism and alleged politically sponsored attacks.
The Ebonyi State Government has said Governor Francis Nwifuru will not be distracted by what it described as political theatrics, sponsored attacks and attempts to undermine his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The government maintained that Nwifuru remained focused on delivering development projects and improving the welfare of residents rather than responding to what it described as politically motivated distractions.
The statement comes amid increasing political activities in Ebonyi as parties and political actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Nwifuru, who is seeking a second term in office, has continued to receive strong backing from members of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state. Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Peter Nwebonyi, recently said no opposition party would be able to defeat the governor in the 2027 election, citing his administration’s infrastructure and human capital development programmes.
The governor has also urged Ebonyi youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of political violence as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify. He warned that no political ambition was worth the blood or life of any young person.
The state government said the administration would remain focused on its development agenda despite efforts by political opponents to create controversy around its activities.
It maintained that the governor’s record in infrastructure, human capital development and other sectors would ultimately speak for the administration.
The government also appealed to residents to reject political narratives capable of creating unnecessary tension and division in the state.
It stressed that political competition should be based on ideas, programmes and verifiable records rather than personal attacks or attempts to destabilise the state.
With the 2027 election approaching, political activity in Ebonyi is expected to increase as opposition parties seek to challenge the APC’s hold on the state.
The Nwifuru administration, however, has continued to project its achievements as the basis for seeking another term, while urging supporters and residents to remain peaceful.
The government said it would not be drawn into distractions, insisting that the governor would continue to concentrate on governance and the implementation of programmes designed to improve the lives of Ebonyi residents.
