2027: No Opposition Candidate Is Sure of Contesting Yet — Galadima

Chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Buba Galadima, has said no opposition candidate can be certain of contesting the 2027 general election, alleging that political pressure is being mounted on opposition figures ahead of the polls.

Galadima made the statement during an interview with Arise News as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

He expressed concern that, despite the election being less than 100 days away, the political atmosphere remained relatively quiet compared with previous election cycles.

“We are only 100 days away from the general election, yet the election fever has not caught the country at all,” he said.

Galadima further alleged that opposition politicians were facing various obstacles that could affect their participation in the election.

“I don’t think there is any candidate outside APC that is sure of contesting this election,” he said.

He also alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress was using political and financial resources to persuade some opposition candidates to withdraw from the race.

According to Galadima, some state assembly candidates were allegedly being offered about N50 million to surrender their tickets, while House of Representatives candidates were allegedly being offered N200 million and a vehicle.

He also claimed that larger sums were being offered to candidates seeking higher elective positions, including Senate and governorship candidates. Galadima did not provide publicly verified evidence for the specific financial offers in the interview.

The APC has not been established as having made such offers based on the allegations presented in the report.

Galadima’s comments come amid ongoing realignments among opposition parties and political figures ahead of the 2027 elections.

Several prominent opposition politicians have been involved in discussions over possible alliances and the possibility of presenting candidates capable of challenging the ruling party.

The political landscape remains fluid, with parties expected to finalise their candidates and electoral strategies as the 2027 election timetable progresses.
