2027: NNPP Denies Joining Coalition, Says No Deal With Other Parties
The NNPP says it has not joined any political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, warning the public against individuals it says are falsely presenting themselves as leaders of the party.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has denied joining any political coalition or entering into a working arrangement with another political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party also warned the public against individuals it said had been expelled from its ranks but were still presenting themselves as its leaders and candidates.
The NNPP made its position known in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Boniface Aniebonam.
Aniebonam said the party had become aware that some individuals were allegedly parading themselves as NNPP leaders with the intention of collecting money from political parties and candidates.
He urged anyone who had allegedly paid such individuals for candidates’ fees or political alliances to seek refunds from them.
He stressed that the authentic NNPP, identified by its basket of fruits logo, was not a member of any coalition and remained an independent political party.
Aniebonam, however, said the party could announce strategic alliances with other political parties if the need arose ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also identified the officials recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as authorised to speak and make decisions on behalf of the party.
They include Aniebonam as Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Agbo Major as National Chairman, Oginni Olaposi as National Secretary, Prince Toyese as National Treasurer and Aisha Kade Onyia as National Woman Leader.
The NNPP's latest position follows earlier reports of possible opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 elections. In May, the party had said it would explore alliances with other parties if a credible and broadly acceptable presidential candidate emerged.
Aniebonam said the party would communicate any future decision on strategic alliances through its recognised leadership.
