2027: NDC Begins Mobilisation of Polling Agents Nationwide

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has begun mobilising polling agents nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections, directing its state and Local Government Area chairmen to compile and harmonise lists of party agents.

The party gave the officials two weeks to submit the final lists for approval by its leadership, according to a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.

Director said the directive was issued in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, and instructed state and LGA chairmen to immediately convene meetings with candidates and other relevant stakeholders.

The party said two separate sets of agents would be compiled, with one covering the National Assembly elections and another covering the governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The lists will subsequently be scrutinised and ratified by the party leadership, including its presidential candidate and running mate, before training begins.

The NDC also directed that the final lists be counter-signed by state chairmen and the respective candidates to authenticate the nominations and establish ownership.

It added that where disagreements arise between party leaders and candidates over the selection of agents, the candidate’s choice would prevail.

The mobilisation is part of the party’s preparations to establish polling-unit representation across the country during the 2027 elections.

The move follows an earlier disclosure by Senator Victor Umeh that the party was building structures at polling-unit level to ensure it had agents across Nigeria.

Umeh said the NDC’s structure provides for 13 polling-unit executives in each polling unit, adding that the arrangement would help the party produce agents to represent it during elections.

He also said candidates were being encouraged to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence by mobilising agents in their constituencies.

The NDC said its leadership was prepared for what it described as an issue-based campaign, assuring members, supporters and stakeholders that necessary structures were being put in place ahead of the elections.

The party’s latest directive comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, including candidate selection, grassroots mobilisation and election-day organisation.

The mobilisation of polling agents is expected to form part of the party’s broader strategy for monitoring voting and the collation of results at polling units.

The NDC said its leadership would continue coordinating the process as preparations for the elections progress.
