2027: I Won’t Attend Every APC Campaign Rally — Tinubu
Tinubu says he will prioritise governance while APC campaign officials lead mobilisation across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 election.
President Bola Tinubu has said he will not accompany the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to every campaign event ahead of the 2027 general election, stressing that his responsibilities as president must remain a priority.
Tinubu spoke on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He urged council members to take the party’s message to Nigerians across states and local government areas while he continued to attend to national responsibilities.
The President said he agreed with concerns that campaign activities should not distract him from governance, noting that the country required his attention.
“You’ve warned me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance, I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now,” Tinubu said.
He asked campaign officials to excuse him from accompanying them to every event, adding that the government had financial obligations to meet.
“So, you will excuse me from going everywhere with you, we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” he said.
Tinubu also highlighted the need to attract investors willing to make long-term commitments to Nigeria, saying such investments would support the country’s future and create opportunities for coming generations.
“We want those investors to come in, be here to stay, to invest for the future of our children,” he said.
Despite his decision not to attend every campaign event, Tinubu said he would continue to engage directly with Nigerians while the campaign council coordinated activities at state and local government levels.
The council is expected to oversee campaign messaging, media engagement and mobilisation ahead of the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s revised timetable.
Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari is the council’s Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma serves as secretary. Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda are listed as vice-chairmen.
The APC has also scheduled its campaign flag-off for Kaduna State on October 24 as it intensifies preparations for the election.
