2027: I’ll Introduce N500,000 Minimum Wage, Ensure 24-Hour Electricity If Elected — Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has promised to introduce a N500,000 monthly living minimum wage for Nigerian workers if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Sowore also pledged to provide 24-hour electricity, make education free and accessible at all levels and construct one million public mixed-income homes as part of his proposed agenda for Nigeria.

The AAC candidate made the promises while outlining his party’s programme for the 2027 elections.

Sowore said his administration would pursue what he described as a revolutionary approach to governance, centred on justice, equal rights and improved living conditions for Nigerians.

He argued that Nigeria had sufficient resources to provide a better standard of living for its citizens but had been held back by corruption, poor governance and an economic system that favoured a small political and business elite.

According to him, the proposed N500,000 minimum wage is necessary because Nigerian workers can no longer survive on what he described as inadequate wages while elected officials and political appointees receive substantially higher incomes.

Sowore also promised to tackle Nigeria’s electricity crisis by ensuring uninterrupted power supply.

He said no serious industrial economy could continue to depend heavily on generators, adding that reliable electricity would be central to his administration’s plans for economic development and industrialisation.

On education, the AAC candidate promised free and accessible education at all levels, saying no Nigerian child should be denied the opportunity to study because of their parents’ financial circumstances.

Sowore further pledged to construct one million public mixed-income homes and reform tenancy laws to reduce the burden of advance rent payments on Nigerians.

He said the proposed housing programme would form part of a broader strategy to address the country’s housing deficit and improve living conditions.

The promises come as political parties and presidential candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sowore is among the presidential candidates already confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 presidential contest, where he will represent the African Action Congress.

His campaign is expected to focus heavily on economic reforms, social welfare, electricity, education and what he describes as a fundamental restructuring of Nigeria’s political and economic system.
