2027: Female Aspirant Nkem Okereke Emerges NRM Presidential Candidate
Esther Nkem Okereke emerged as NRM’s 2027 presidential candidate through consensus, pledging to advance the party’s “Rescue Nigeria” agenda focused on governance reform, youth empowerment and economic development.
Dr. Esther Nkem Okereke has emerged as the presidential candidate of the National Rescue Mission (NRM) for the 2027 general election.
Okereke secured the party’s ticket through a consensus arrangement endorsed by party leaders.
Announcing the development, NRM National Chairman Chinedu Obi expressed confidence in the party’s vision, saying Nigeria possesses abundant resources and human capital but continues to struggle with widespread poverty due to poor governance.
He said the party aims to reform key sectors, including education and healthcare, through investments in skills development, innovation, primary healthcare and expanded insurance coverage.
“For years, global reports repeatedly described Nigeria as the poverty capital of the world,” Obi said, adding that the party believes Okereke can help restore the country’s prosperity.
In her acceptance speech, Okereke said Nigeria was at a critical moment and called for unity, courage and purposeful leadership to address the nation’s challenges.
She described the NRM’s “Rescue Nigeria” agenda as a comprehensive effort to reverse institutional decline, economic stagnation and insecurity.
“I deliberately chose the NRM, a political party established to confront and rectify the systemic crises of governance in Nigeria,” she said.
Okereke added that the party seeks to mobilise young people, promote ethical leadership and drive structural reforms aimed at moving Nigeria from survival to sustainable development.
She said her presidential ambition aligns with the NRM’s ideology and commitment to national renewal.
