2027, Atiku Will not be Absentee President If Elected, ADC Assures Nigerians
The ADC Presidential Campaign Council says Atiku Abubakar would provide a physically present and responsive presidency if elected in 2027.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has assured Nigerians that its presidential candidate, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, would provide a physically present and responsive presidency if elected in the 2027 presidential election.
Kola Ologbondiyan, Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, gave the assurance on Monday in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Atiku Unity Movement (AUM), led by Francis Eburuwe.
Ologbondiyan said Atiku would not be an “absentee president” who would be unavailable when Nigerians required presidential attention.
He said the country needed a president who understood the challenges confronting citizens and was physically available to respond to the demands of governance.
According to him, the experiences of the past three years have reinforced the need for a presidency that is accessible, responsive and capable of taking timely decisions.
“The country needs a President who understands the challenges confronting Nigerians and is physically available to respond to the demands of governance.
“Nigeria cannot afford a situation in which there is uncertainty over who is effectively directing the affairs of government at critical moments,” he said.
Ologbondiyan said Atiku’s proposed approach to governance would focus on addressing Nigeria’s economic difficulties, improving citizens’ welfare and restoring confidence in public institutions.
He also said the former Vice-President’s recent economic proposals were aimed at reducing the burden of rising energy and living costs.
Atiku has proposed a production-based intervention for petroleum products refined in Nigeria, with a fixed spending limit, National Assembly approval and independent audits.
Earlier, Eburuwe said the Atiku Unity Movement remained committed to Atiku’s candidacy and would mobilise Nigerians around what he described as the need for a change in the country’s political direction.
He said the movement would take the message of Atiku’s candidacy to Nigerians across the country and support the ADC presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the ADC serving as the platform adopted by a coalition of opposition figures, including Atiku and other political leaders.
