2027: APC Doesn’t Want Opposition Candidates to Campaign Anywhere — Galadima
NDC chieftain Buba Galadima alleges that opposition politicians face obstacles and attacks while campaigning ahead of the 2027 elections.
A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of creating obstacles for opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Galadima alleged that opposition candidates were being prevented from freely campaigning in parts of the country, claiming that some politicians had been attacked when visiting certain areas.
He made the allegations during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday while discussing the political environment ahead of the 2027 elections.
“There are blocks put in the path of the opposition. This APC and its government does not want any opposition person to campaign in any part of the country, as they are stoned wherever they go. They also want to make life impossible for those opposite them,” he said.
Galadima questioned whether such an environment could be described as democratic, arguing that political parties and candidates should be able to campaign, speak and move freely.
He also criticised what he described as restrictions on political activities, saying citizens had allowed the situation to continue.
“But all this they are doing is because we citizens have allowed them to do so,” Galadima said.
The NDC chieftain further raised concerns about the enforcement of campaign spending limits ahead of the 2027 election.
He claimed that the Electoral Act places a N10 billion limit on campaign spending by political parties, but argued that the cost of political advertising could make compliance difficult.
Galadima cited the cost of billboards in different parts of the country, claiming that a billboard in some states could cost as much as N1 billion.
He questioned how parties could remain within the statutory spending limit if they were required to pay substantial sums for campaign advertising across the states.
The politician’s comments come as parties and political groups intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures increasingly raising concerns about the political environment and the ability of candidates to campaign freely.
Galadima’s claims about restrictions and attacks on opposition campaigners were presented as allegations during the television interview. No independent evidence establishing all the claims was provided in the report.
