119 AK-47 Ammunition Recovered Near Gombe Graveyard
The Gombe State Police Command has recovered 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed in a sack along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, Yamaltu/Deba LGA. According to the police, the discovery was made following credible intelligence received on May 19, 2026. The sack, found under a tree near a graveyard, also contained empty ammunition packets and other items. No arrests were made, but investigations and surveillance operations have been intensified to track those responsible.
The Gombe State Police Command has recovered 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed inside a sack along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state.
The recovery was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the discovery followed credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division at about 10:30am on May 19, 2026.
The police spokesperson explained that security operatives were alerted about a suspicious white sack hidden under a tree opposite a graveyard along the road.
“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer promptly led a team of detectives to the scene where the sack was recovered and searched,” Abdullahi stated.
Items recovered from the sack included 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, two empty ammunition packets, two bottles containing moringa seeds, and one green bag.
Following the discovery, police operatives reportedly combed nearby bushes and adjoining areas in search of possible suspects, but no arrest had been made as of the time of the statement.
The command said surveillance and monitoring operations had since been intensified across the area while investigations continue to identify and apprehend those connected to the concealed ammunition.
“The Command has intensified monitoring and surveillance in the area while investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend those connected with the concealed ammunition,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, commended residents for providing timely information that aided the recovery.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing useful intelligence with security agencies to strengthen efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
The latest recovery comes days after the Kano State Police Command announced the arrest of a suspected arms dealer and the recovery of fabricated AK-47 rifles and other weapons during an operation in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
