A controversy has erupted in the Ikotun area of Lagos after a woman accused a private medical facility of withholding one of her twins following childbirth, sparking outrage and public attention.
In a viral video that surfaced on Wednesday, the woman—identified as Blessing Isioma David, 28—was seen confronting staff at Tip-Top Solution Hospital while holding a newborn. She demanded the immediate production of her second baby, alleging that she had delivered twins at the facility.
The visibly distressed woman was heard shouting at a doctor, insisting she could not have been deprived of one of her babies. Individuals accompanying her also raised alarm, calling for the arrest of hospital personnel over suspected baby trafficking.
The video further showed an obstetric scan report dated March 2026, which indicated a twin pregnancy. According to the document, two foetuses were observed, with one in an oblique cephalic position and the other in a transverse presentation. The report also noted normal cardiac activity for both and identified their genders as male (XY) and female (XX).
However, the hospital’s medical director, Sunday Babajide, strongly refuted the allegations, maintaining that only one baby was delivered. He explained that the scan result was inaccurate and that no second child existed.
Babajide stated that the patient’s husband was present during the delivery and witnessed that only one baby was born. He also claimed the mother was conscious throughout the procedure and was informed immediately afterward.
He further suggested that errors can occur in scans conducted later in pregnancy, adding that the facility should have advised a follow-up scan at another centre to confirm the initial findings.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed it is investigating the incident. Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said authorities are working with relevant professional bodies to uncover the truth.
The police assured the public that the situation is under control and that findings from the investigation will be made available in due course.
