The Nigerian Army on Wednesday laid to rest Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other personnel killed in a recent insurgent attack in the North-East.

The burial ceremony took place at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery, where the fallen officers and soldiers were honoured with full military rites. The solemn event drew top military officials, government representatives, and grieving family members.

The troops lost their lives on April 9 following coordinated attacks by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters on military positions in Benisheikh, a key town in Kaga Local Government Area along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway.

In a statement shared on its official platform, the Army described the ceremony as deeply emotional, noting that the nation gathered to honour personnel who “paid the supreme price in the line of duty.” The service was marked by military processions, prayers, and tributes celebrating the courage and commitment of the deceased.

Among dignitaries present were Babagana Zulum and the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, alongside other senior officers. They paid glowing tributes to the fallen, describing them as patriots who gave their lives in defence of Nigeria’s unity and security.

Military citations highlighting their service records were read aloud, while prayers were offered for the repose of their souls. The Army emphasised that the loss reflects the ongoing sacrifices made daily by members of the armed forces in the fight against insurgency.

The emotional scenes from families and colleagues underscored the human cost of the country’s security challenges, even as the bravery of the fallen soldiers continues to inspire national pride.
