President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday received former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, in a private meeting that lasted several minutes.

The engagement, which took place around 4 p.m., was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who shared photographs of the meeting on social media.

Although no official details were released regarding the discussions, the meeting is believed to be part of ongoing consultations between both leaders on regional diplomacy, West African political developments, and Nigeria’s broader continental engagements.

Photographs from the meeting showed both leaders in a relaxed conversation inside the President’s office, with a “Two-Year Milestone” document visible in the background.

This latest visit continues a pattern of engagement between the two statesmen. Jonathan had previously visited the Presidential Villa in November 2025, shortly after his evacuation from Guinea-Bissau following a military takeover during the country’s disputed election period.

At the time, Jonathan had been leading the West African Elders Forum election observation mission, underlining his continued role in regional peace and democratic mediation efforts.

During that earlier visit, he met with President Tinubu and called on West African leaders to ensure transparency in electoral processes and peaceful resolution of political crises across the region.

Jonathan has remained active in continental diplomacy over the years, participating in election monitoring and mediation missions across countries including Mali, The Gambia, Liberia, and Guinea-Bissau. He has often described himself as a “roving ambassador” for democratic stability in West Africa.

Wednesday’s meeting adds to a series of consultations between past and present Nigerian leaders, particularly on issues relating to regional security, democratic governance, and ECOWAS political stability.

No further statement was issued by the Presidency or the former President regarding the outcome of the meeting.
