Ministers serving under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are reportedly unsettled following the recent removal of some cabinet members, sparking anxiety within the administration.
The development comes after the President relieved the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, of their duties on Tuesday.
Prior to their dismissal, concerns had been raised in various quarters about the performance of certain cabinet members. Critics alleged that some ministers were not contributing meaningfully to the administration’s goals, with a few described as “square pegs in round holes.”
There were also claims that some political appointees lack the required expertise and capacity to effectively implement the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda across ministries, departments, and agencies.
The tension within government circles was highlighted by a minister who visited the Presidential Villa on Wednesday. Speaking anonymously, the official remarked, “There is an earthquake going on; everyone is in panic mode now,” reflecting the growing unease among cabinet members.
Despite the apprehension, the President received commendation in some quarters for initiating what was described as a minor cabinet reshuffle. However, observers have urged him to go further by either removing underperforming ministers or redeploying them to roles where they can better contribute to national development.
A source within the presidency noted that while the President remains committed to improving the country, some appointees appear to lack the ideas needed to translate policy into tangible results.
Meanwhile, attention has also been drawn to critical sectors such as power, which remains central to Nigeria’s economic growth. Many Nigerians have continued to express dissatisfaction over worsening electricity supply, raising questions about the effectiveness of leadership in that sector.
