Your Children May Be Collecting NELFUND Without Telling You, Says Oyedele

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has suggested that some Nigerian parents may be unaware that their children are receiving loans from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Oyedele made the remark while speaking on the Federal Government’s economic reform scorecard and the implementation of its education financing initiatives.

He said some students could access NELFUND support without informing their parents, highlighting the growing reach of the student loan programme.

The minister’s comment underscores the need for students and their families to understand the terms attached to the loans, including the obligations that beneficiaries may have after completing their studies.

NELFUND was established to provide financial support to eligible Nigerian students facing difficulties funding their tertiary education.

The scheme covers eligible students in Nigerian tertiary institutions and is designed to improve access to higher education by reducing financial barriers.

Oyedele’s remarks come amid the Federal Government’s broader efforts to expand access to education and provide financial support to young Nigerians.

He urged Nigerians to properly understand government programmes and use available opportunities responsibly.
