Wike Denies Lobbying for APC Campaign DG Position
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has denied lobbying to become Director-General of President Bola Tinubu's APC presidential campaign council for the 2027 election, despite calls from some APC figures for his appointment.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied reports that he is lobbying to become Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike dismissed the reports while speaking in Abuja, describing the claim as false and insisting that he had not approached anyone to seek the position.
The speculation followed earlier calls by some APC figures for President Bola Tinubu to appoint Wike as the Director-General of his 2027 campaign. One such call was made by Rivers APC chieftain Princewill Dike, who argued that Wike's political network and experience made him suitable for the role.
However, Wike said he was not lobbying for any campaign position and had not asked President Tinubu or anyone else to appoint him.
The FCT minister has remained politically influential in Rivers State despite his continued membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, while several of his allies have moved into the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
His political alignment with President Tinubu has also generated speculation about his possible role in the APC's preparations for the next presidential election.
The APC has already begun putting campaign structures in place ahead of 2027, including the inauguration of its national campaign council for the 2026 Osun governorship election, which the party describes as an important test of its preparedness for the general elections.
