The Osun State Police Command has explained that Senator Francis Fadahunsi was invited after a statement attributed to him allegedly threatened members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, Samuel Etaifo, said the senator was asked to provide clarification and help prevent tensions from escalating.

According to the police, Fadahunsi was alleged to have said that any Accord Party member seen in Ilesa before the election should be killed. The command condemned the alleged remark, saying political leaders and public officials should exercise restraint and avoid statements capable of heightening tensions.

Etaifo stressed that the invitation was not intended as intimidation, describing it as a proactive security measure aimed at preserving peace and ensuring a free, fair and credible election.

The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to neutrality and professionalism, warning that acts or statements capable of inciting violence or disrupting public order would not be tolerated.

He also urged political parties, their supporters and members of the public to remain law-abiding and resolve grievances through lawful channels.

The development comes just days before the August 15 Osun governorship election, amid heightened political tensions and increased security preparations across the state.
