WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Earn $60,000 Goal Bonus After Egypt Victory

Super Falcons receive $60,000 goal bonus after thrashing Egypt, as NSC doubles incentive ahead of Cameroon clash.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have received a total of $60,000 in goal bonuses following their impressive 6-2 victory over Egypt at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The financial reward follows an incentive package introduced by the National Sports Commission (NSC) to motivate the team throughout the continental tournament.

Before the Falcons opened their campaign against Malawi, the NSC had promised the players $5,000 for every goal scored during the competition.

However, after Nigeria’s commanding victory over Egypt, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Shehu Gusau, announced an upward review of the incentive.

Speaking to the players after the match, Gusau revealed that the NSC had increased the goal bonus to $10,000 per goal, meaning the six goals scored against Egypt earned the team a total reward of $60,000.

The announcement was made to further encourage the players as they prepare for the knockout stage of the tournament.

The Super Falcons secured their place in the quarter-finals after defeating Egypt 6-2 in a thrilling encounter that showcased the team’s attacking quality and determination.

The victory boosted Nigeria’s confidence after a challenging start to the competition and reaffirmed the team’s ambition of winning another African title.

The increased financial incentive is expected to further raise the players’ morale ahead of their crucial quarter-final fixture against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.

Nigeria will face Cameroon in Casablanca on Sunday, with both teams battling for a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Beyond a semi-final berth, the winner of the encounter will also qualify automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled to be held in Brazil.

The NFF expressed confidence that the improved welfare package would inspire the players to maintain their impressive performances and continue representing Nigeria with pride.

The Super Falcons remain Africa’s most successful women’s national team and are aiming to extend their dominance by lifting another WAFCON title while securing qualification for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.
