US Publishes 100 Questions, Answers for Foreigners Seeking Citizenship
USCIS has published 100 official civics questions and answers that foreigners seeking US citizenship may be tested on, with applicants required to answer six out of 10 questions correctly to pass the civics section.
The United States government has published its official list of 100 civics questions and answers for foreign nationals seeking to become American citizens through the naturalisation process.
The material, released by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, covers key areas including the Constitution, American government, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, US history and national symbols.
The civics examination is conducted orally. During the test, a USCIS officer asks an applicant up to 10 questions from the 100-question list, with applicants required to answer at least six correctly to pass the civics section.
USCIS also warned applicants that some answers may change following elections or appointments. Candidates are therefore expected to provide the name of the official currently serving at the time of their eligibility interview.
The agency advised applicants to study the answers provided in its official materials, noting that officers would assess responses based on the current information applicable at the time of the interview.
The questions cover fundamental principles of American democracy, including the Constitution, the rule of law, the system of government and the rights protected under the country's founding documents.
The publication is intended to help prospective citizens prepare for the civics component of the naturalisation process.
