Trump Says Ousting FIFA Boss Infantino Would Be ‘Terrible Mistake’

US President Donald Trump has warned FIFA against removing its president, Gianni Infantino, describing any attempt to replace him as a “terrible mistake”.

Trump made the comment in a post on Truth Social as Infantino faces growing pressure from several major football confederations over his leadership of FIFA.

Trump praised Infantino as “fantastic” and credited him with presiding over what he described as the most successful World Cup ever.

He also claimed that FIFA would not be as successful or profitable if Infantino were removed from office.

Infantino has come under increased scrutiny following FIFA’s controversial proposal to sell a stake in the commercial rights to its tournaments to private investors. The plan was withdrawn after criticism from football stakeholders.

UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and Concacaf have since accused FIFA’s leadership of a serious breach of trust and called for greater transparency and accountability.

The opposition adds to pressure on Infantino ahead of FIFA’s next presidential election, although he continues to have significant support within parts of the football community.

Trump’s intervention represents a strong public endorsement of Infantino at a time when the FIFA president is facing one of the most significant challenges to his leadership.
