Trabzonspor Opens Talks to Sign Mohamed Salah

Turkish club Trabzonspor has confirmed that it has opened transfer negotiations with Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, with the former Liverpool star expected to arrive in Turkey on Wednesday for discussions over a possible move.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Black Sea club announced that Salah would land at Istanbul Atatürk Airport before travelling to Trabzon later the same day to continue talks.

“Mohamed Salah, with whom we have begun transfer negotiations, will be at Istanbul Atatürk Airport at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 5,” the club said.

“The player is scheduled to arrive in Trabzon on the same day in the evening hours.”

Salah became a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing an end to a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield.

During his time with the English club, the Egyptian established himself as one of Liverpool’s greatest players, winning the UEFA Champions League and two Premier League titles while becoming the club’s third-highest goalscorer of all time.

He scored 257 goals in 442 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool and also ranks fourth on the Premier League’s all-time scoring chart with 193 goals, behind Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.

The 34-year-old endured a difficult final campaign at Liverpool, managing just seven Premier League goals as the club struggled throughout the season.

Salah has also enjoyed an outstanding international career with Egypt, scoring 66 goals in 119 appearances and helping the Pharaohs reach the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1934 before they were eliminated by eventual runners-up Argentina.

His achievements have made him one of Africa’s most decorated footballers.

Before Trabzonspor’s announcement, Salah had also been linked with fellow Turkish Super Lig side Beşiktaş.

Trabzonspor finished third in the Turkish top flight last season, securing qualification for the UEFA Europa League play-off round.

The club hopes Salah’s arrival would significantly strengthen its squad ahead of the new campaign as it seeks to challenge for domestic honours and make an impact in European competition.

Negotiations between both parties are expected to continue following the player’s arrival in Turkey.
