Tinubu Suspends Three Permanent Secretaries, Orders Arrest Over Fake Agency
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze and suspended three permanent secretaries following the discovery of another unauthorised agency operating within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze and the suspension of three permanent secretaries following the discovery of another fake agency operating within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The development was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the decision followed findings by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The purported agency, identified as the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office, was allegedly promoted by Nwabueze with suspected collaborators within the SGF’s office.
According to the government, the organisation operated without presidential authorisation and contrary to existing laws.
Following the discovery, Tinubu directed the immediate arrest of Nwabueze and the suspension of three permanent secretaries – M.S. Danjuma, Nadungu Gagare and Richard P. Pheelangwah.
The government said the action was part of efforts to prevent unauthorised organisations from operating within the Federal Government and to strengthen accountability within the civil service.
Nwabueze was also found to have operated under several variations of his name, including George Nathan, George Nathan Nwabueze, Honourable George Buchi Nwabueze, Prince George Buchi Nwabueze and George Nwabueze.
The latest case comes shortly after an earlier controversy involving the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, which was also found to have no legal foundation despite gaining access to government facilities and appearing in the 2026 budget.
The ICPC had recommended prosecution of the promoter of that agency, while also calling for disciplinary action against public officials alleged to have facilitated its operations.
The latest development has renewed concerns about weaknesses in verification and administrative controls within government institutions.
