Taskforce Impounds 66 Motorcycles on Lagos Island

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, popularly known as the Lagos Taskforce, has impounded 66 commercial motorcycles for allegedly violating the state's transport regulations.

The Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, disclosed this in a statement issued by the agency's spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, on Tuesday in Lagos.

Akerele said the motorcycles were impounded during an enforcement operation conducted on Monday across parts of Lagos Island.

According to him, the operation targeted illegal commercial motorcycle activities and other actions considered a nuisance and security threat to motorists and residents.

The enforcement team visited areas including CMS Bus Stop, Obalende, Osborne Roundabout, Abraham Adesanya Road, the Lekki-Ajah Expressway and the Lagos Coastal Road.

The operators were allegedly found using restricted routes and disrupting traffic and other road users. Akerele said 66 motorcycles were impounded during the operation, while normalcy was restored in the affected areas.

The chairman said the agency had intensified intelligence gathering and tactical operations against illegal commercial motorcycle operations on restricted highways, bridges and other prohibited routes across the state.

He warned that subsequent enforcement exercises would also target passengers found violating the state's transport regulations.

Akerele said all impounded motorcycles would be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through the courts in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

He reaffirmed the Taskforce's commitment to sustained enforcement operations until full compliance with the state's transport regulations is achieved.
