Super Eagles Forward Fires Panathinaikos into Conference League Play-offs
Cyriel Dessers scored a 94th-minute winner as Panathinaikos beat CSKA 1948 2–1 in extra time to progress 3–2 on aggregate to the UEFA Conference League play-offs.
Nigeria international Cyriel Dessers scored an extra-time winner as Panathinaikos defeated CSKA 1948 2–1 in Sofia to advance to the UEFA Conference League play-off round.
Dessers struck in the 94th minute at the Vasil Levski National Stadium, restoring Panathinaikos’ lead just two minutes after Lasha Dvali had equalised for the Bulgarian hosts.
The Greek side had taken the lead in the 66th minute through Levi Garcia, who found the bottom corner from a difficult angle.
CSKA 1948 responded in the 92nd minute when Dvali converted to force extra time, but Dessers quickly settled the contest with his late winner.
The result gave Panathinaikos a 3–2 aggregate victory, following a 1–1 draw in the first leg in Athens.
Dessers’ decisive goal means Panathinaikos now move into the Conference League play-off round, keeping their hopes of reaching the competition’s league phase alive.
