The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Samuel Akoade, for allegedly hacking his 60-year-old mother, Olufunke Amoo, to death in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the deceased’s residence in the Powerline area along the Ore–Okitipupa Road.

According to a police source, the incident caused panic among residents after the woman was discovered dead at the residence.

Preliminary information indicated that Amoo sustained deep machete wounds and had died before she was found.

Samuel was allegedly responsible for the attack, with the police saying he reportedly used a cutlass to inflict injuries on his mother. The motive for the alleged killing has not been established.

Following the discovery, operatives from the Ore Division were deployed to the scene. The officers secured the area, recovered a machete suspected to have been used in the attack and documented evidence from the scene.

The suspect reportedly fled before the arrival of the police. However, following sustained efforts by investigators, Samuel was subsequently located and arrested.

He was taken into police custody for questioning as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing and determine the motive behind the incident.

Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased were deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ore, pending further investigation and other necessary procedures.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Akure for further investigation.

Police authorities are expected to establish the sequence of events leading to the woman’s death and determine the appropriate legal action based on the outcome of the investigation.

The incident has reportedly left residents in the Ore community concerned, particularly because of the alleged involvement of the victim’s son.

The Ondo State Police Command has not indicated that the investigation has been concluded, and the suspect remains in custody as detectives continue their inquiries.
