Sokoto Approves ₦1.76bn for 1,000 Motorcycles to Boost Security

The Sokoto State Government has approved ₦1.759bn for the purchase of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles to strengthen the mobility and operational capacity of security agencies across the state.

The approval was one of the decisions reached at the sixth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council for 2026, chaired by Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir.

According to the state government, the motorcycles will complement the 62 armoured vehicles recently procured at a cost of ₦27bn and distributed to security agencies.

The motorcycles are expected to be particularly useful in difficult terrains and communities affected by banditry, where conventional security vehicles may have limited access.

The government said the procurement forms part of its broader efforts to provide security agencies with the logistics needed to tackle banditry and other criminal activities effectively.

The council also approved funds for several education, healthcare, water and vocational development projects across the state, including the renovation of Government Technical College, Runjin Sambo, and facilities at the College of Nursing Sciences.
