Rescued Kwara Nurse Says She Delivered 10 Babies in Captivity
Rescued Kwara nurse Amirah Salihu says she helped 10 pregnant women deliver their babies during nearly six months in captivity, relying on her nursing training despite the lack of proper medical facilities.
A Kwara nurse rescued after nearly six months in captivity has recounted how she helped 10 pregnant women deliver their babies under extremely difficult conditions, saying she had to rely on her medical knowledge despite lacking proper equipment.
Amirah Salihu, daughter of the chief of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, was among those abducted during the February 3 attack on Woro, Nuku communities. She said she spent nearly six months in captivity before being rescued.
Salihu said she assisted 10 pregnant women who went into labour while they were held captive, delivering their babies without access to standard medical facilities or equipment. She explained that her training as a nurse helped her manage the situation despite the difficult circumstances.
The nurse also recounted the harsh conditions endured by the captives during their prolonged stay, describing the experience as extremely challenging. She said the women and other victims had to cope with limited access to basic necessities while in captivity.
Salihu's account highlights the difficult circumstances faced by victims of abduction, particularly those with medical needs who are unable to access proper healthcare while in captivity.
She has since returned home following her rescue, while authorities continue efforts to address insecurity in affected communities across Kwara State.
