The Police Service Commission has deployed a monitoring team to Osun State to oversee the conduct of police personnel during the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The delegation, led by retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Taiwo Lakanu, a PSC board member and Chairman of its Standing Committee on Police Matters, will monitor officers deployed for election duties and ensure compliance with established guidelines.

The commission said the deployment was intended to promote discipline, professionalism and impartiality among police personnel before, during and after the election.

It urged all officers assigned to the poll to remain apolitical and protect the rights of citizens to vote freely and peacefully.

The PSC warned that officers found compromising the credibility of the election would face sanctions.

The commission said its monitoring exercise was also aimed at strengthening public confidence in the electoral process by ensuring that police conduct remained impartial, professional and guided by the law.

The deployment comes as 14 political parties prepare for the August 15 governorship election, with about 15,000 police officers already deployed across the state.

The PSC urged the officers to maintain exemplary conduct throughout the electoral process and avoid any action capable of undermining the credibility of the poll.
