Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, a distinguished Nigerian lawyer, legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has died at the age of 92.

Kasunmu died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Baptist Academy Old Students Association.

The association's Global President, Olumide Ajomale, described the late legal scholar as a towering figure in law, scholarship and national development.

Kasunmu was a member of the Baptist Academy Class of 1953 and later served as a trustee of the Baptist Academy Old Students Association. The association said he embodied its values of integrity, discipline and service.

Beyond his legal practice, Kasunmu was recognised for his contribution to legal scholarship and mentorship, having influenced generations of lawyers and students through his academic and professional career.

The association also described him as a cherished family patriarch whose life was marked by service to God and humanity.

His death has prompted tributes from members of Nigeria's legal and academic communities, who are expected to continue celebrating his contributions to the country's legal profession.
